A Message from MD GFOA President
Dear Members & Friends of the Maryland GFOA,
As we advance through the first month of 2024, I hope the year has been off to a great start for you. Entering a new year brings with it an opportunity to reflect on the year completed, as well as look forward with optimism and expectation to the year ahead.
In 2024, at least one thing is certain – we will have to respond to some unexpected event(s). When we are aware of new developments on the horizon, it allows time for planning and preparation. However, when we are met with the unexpected, it will demand a level of adaptability and professional readiness, so our response can match the moment. The MD GFOA endeavors to prepare our members for the opportunities ahead, expected or unexpected, and we do so primarily through the delivery of relevant content at our Quarterly Conference series, and our network of professionals.
As the pace of change increases with each passing year, the MD GFOA will provide our members with concise, thoughtful presentations, that can serve as a beacon to our professionals, assisting in sorting through the deluge of information and minimizing the time and energy spent lurching from one direction to the next. Our members will benefit from thoughtfully provided guidance that will afford them the opportunity to have clear alignment in their pursuits, ensuring steady and purposeful development. This allows for surefooted progress, bringing order to the many possibilities.
Over the upcoming weeks and months, many of our members will be engaged in a variety of activities: issuing various IRS forms; completing Single Audits; planning for bond issuances; conducting Tax Sales; issuing tax bills followed by tax collection processes; and before you know it… closing out the books on another fiscal year. In the midst of these important activities, we look forward to seeing you at our upcoming conferences; at one of our Affinity Group meetings; or at one of our educational sessions.
